Here’s a sneak peek at a new project I’ve been working on… Geometric Necklaces made from book cover pieces! I’ve got a few things to tweak in order to make these sturdy enough to sell, but I’m super happy with how this prototype came out and have been wearing this one around myself. I’m hoping to have a batch of these in my Etsy shop within the next week or so. :)

Foam PrintingMaterials needed:Foam or polystyrene container pencil paint or ink small roller
1. Cut a large section of foam from your container. 2. Draw or trace your design and press down with your pencil.  Not too hard but also not to lightly.  You need to make an impression without going all the way through. 3. Roller your design with paint or ink. 4.  Lay your paper or card on top of your paint covered foam and press lightly with the back of your hand all over. 5.  Gently peel away your paper or card to reveal your design. A lot of people have made very cool lamps out of doily balls, but I wanted to take the same technique and apply it to a lampshade. I really enjoyed putting it together and love the handmade finished look, so I thought I’d share my process. Here’s how you can make your own!

While we’ve highlighted some creative new uses for parts of “dead” umbrellas (our umbrella-related posts are grouped here), this idea’s new to us:
Combine an umbrella frame with one or more strings of icicle lights to yield some pretty unique lighting.
Spotted on Pinterest here. (For those of us wanting additional information: The original Pinterest pin links to a now-defunct blog here as the source; so, no info!)
